Let the record show that on the day of our marriage, October 23, 1971, I had to go to the dentist in the morning. We were married at 6:30 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. The priest was Father Alfred Sartor
Chris' Maid of Honor was Liz Tenorio and my best man was Karl Frederick Hoff, my then 15-yr. old brother (now 54). I forgot that Karl didn't have a driver's license then; he had to single-handedly push my car in neutral from the parking lot to pick Chris and I up at church after Mass.
The day we returned to our home at the caverns so that I could park guide around at the caverns on Monday and Chris could return to her student teaching for New Mexico State University Las Cruces, NM) where she was finishing her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She graduated in January 1972; I graduated from the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque) in June 1970 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in History and a minor in political science.
We had a home honeymoon, promising ourselves to go on a vacation style honeymoon as soon as possible. By January 1972, Chris and I were at Grand Canyon National Park where I was attending "Introduction to National Park Service Operations."
The Grand Canyon is not too shabby a backdrop for a newly wed couple, now is it?
